Fox Run at Orchard Park’s Executive Chef Lisa Sanders recently received national recognition as a top chef in the senior living industry.

Compass Group, the parent company of Morrison Living and the world’s leading food-service company, awarded Sanders first place in the Women in Culinary Competition. She was also named a Compass Chef of the Year and placed second in the Morrison Living Food Fight competition.

Compass Group began the Women in Culinary program this year as a way to highlight leading women in a typically male-dominated profession. The program kicked off with the 2019 Women in Culinary Competition, which featured 21 chefs from Compass Group companies all over the United States competing for the top spot. Sanders was named the inaugural first place winner.

To receive the title of Compass Chef of the Year, chefs receive nominations from both leadership and online voting open to the general public.

More than 3,400 people voted this year, including colleagues, patrons, senior living community members, and staff. Sanders was one of three chefs to receive the Chef of the Year title. She earned an exclusive invitation to a culinary experience with José Andrés’ Think Food Group team in Washington D.C., which includes tours of Think Food Lab and Michelin Star restaurant — minibar by José Andrés.

“Chef Lisa aims high when it comes to creativity and attention to quality ingredients. She also puts a huge effort into meeting the current Fox Run community Members’ preferences and tastes,” said Mark Herle, director of dining services at Fox Run at Orchard Park. “When it comes to leading, Chef Lisa has proven to inspire everyone around her. She truly deserves this recognition as a top leader in our profession.”

“Being awarded these achievements is empowering. I feel proud to represent women and help reaffirm that we do belong in this industry,” Sanders said. “The appreciation I have received from colleagues, staff, and most importantly, our Fox Run community members is unbeatable. I am grateful that Fox Run and Morrison Living support such exciting opportunities that help me grow personally and as a chef. Most importantly, I get to do what I love every day.”
