Smiling can improve how someone looks

7 Feel-Good Stories to Come Out of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Lately our collective news feeds have been filled with tense and worrisome updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. While these times have certainly been challenging for all of us, we’re seeing many hopeful headlines from our Morrison Living family. Our team is making an impact on residents, colleagues, and the community through some incredible moments. Enjoy these positive and uplifting stories as we weather through this storm.

Beautiful and Bright Spring Flower Arrangements

Will, one of our cooks at Holly Creek, assembled 70 flower arrangements to deliver to residents’ rooms. It was quite the family affair, as his nieces and nephews also wrote handmade cards to be provided with each arrangement. Our residents’ faces completely ‘blossomed’ with smiles!

“Don’t Stand So Close to Me” Reminder

We should all know the rule by now—we must maintain a distance of at least six feet from others. Associates and residents at Hooverwood Indianapolis Jewish Home teamed up to spread awareness on the importance of social distancing with a catchy video message! The Police’s “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” works as the perfect tune for this reminder. Now try not to have this song stuck in your head for the rest of the day!

Grocery Delivery to Isolated Residents

Several of our team members in the San Francisco Bay Area provided much-needed food for isolated residents in affordable housing communities. Over 250 bags of groceries were delivered to residents in need. Some of these residents do not have family members, access to Meals on Wheels, food supplies, or their caregivers were finding empty shelves in local grocery stores. We were able to fill their tummies and fill their souls!

Virtual Cooking Demos

When you can’t always come to the kitchen, we’ll bring the kitchen to you! Chef Brandon, with Cantata Adult Life Services, continued our Teaching Kitchen segments by live streaming demos on residents’ televisions. He taught residents how to make Polish kołaczki, which are flaky little pastries filled with fruit, cheese, nut, or poppy. Teaching Kitchens allow residents to explore food, culinary and nutrition literacy—now from the comfort of their own rooms.

Hello from Below

Social connectivity remains more important than ever—especially in these times of distancing. Our team at the Rancho Forum San Antonio are staying connected to residents—just in a slightly new and different way! With the sounds of chants and cheers, our team traveled throughout the courtyard to wave to residents from their safe and physically distant balconies with fun and encouraging messages—it was quite the parade!

Moving Happy Hours

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere and we’re all missing those social gatherings paired with good libations. Therefore, our team created a door-to-door happy hour for residents to enjoy. The dining team made the rounds with the kind of service that’ll have you thinking ‘why wasn’t this always a thing?’

Serving Smiles

Our teams across the country are serving smile cards to residents on their room service trays. We’ve lined up a series of bright, cheery cards featuring positive, motivational quotes to remind our residents that we will get through this together – alone. There’s a multitude of different quotes and templates available to ensure residents get a new greeting every day!

Morrison Living is always here to partner with you, support you and be a shoulder to lean on. Our goal is to be the best part of someone’s day—through the uplifting times and the tough times. For more encouraging stories, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
